Article 179 – Vacation and resignation of, and removal from, the offices of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
A member holding office as Speaker or Deputy Speaker of an Assembly.
(a) shall vacate his office if he ceases to be a member of the Assembly;
(b) may at any time by writing under his hand addressed, if such member is the Speaker, to the Deputy Speaker, and if such member is the Deputy Speaker, to the Speaker, resign his office; and Provided that no resolution for the purpose of clause (c) shall be moved unless at least fourteen days notice has been given of the intention to move the resolution: Provided further that, whenever the Assembly is dissolved, the Speaker shall not vacate his office until immediately before the first meeting of the Assembly after the dissolution.

179 Article – Vacation and resignation of the offices of President and Vice-Chairman, and removal from office.
A member holding office as the Speaker or Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
(a) vacate his office if he ceases to be a member of the Legislative Assembly;
(b) may, at any time by writing under his hand, address the Vice-Chairman, if such member is the Speaker, and if such member is the Vice-Chairman, resign his office to the Speaker; and provided that for the purposes of clause (c), no motion shall be moved unless at least fourteen days’ notice of the intention to move the resolution has been given: Provided that, whenever the Assembly is dissolved, The Speaker shall not vacate his office until immediately before the first meeting of the Legislative Assembly after its dissolution.

Article 179 Debate Summary
Draft Article 158 (Article 179) was debated on 2 June 1949. It regulated the leave, resignation or removal of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly. A member moved an amendment to clause (c) so that the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker could be removed by a resolution passed by the ‘Members of the Assembly present and voting’. He argued that the opinion of the members present in the House should be taken into account on the day the resolution is moved. This amendment was rejected without debate. The draft Article 158 was adopted on 2 June 1949.
