Article 236 – Interpretation In this Chapter.
(a) the expression district judge includes judge of a city civil court, additional district judge, joint district judge, assistant district judge, chief judge of a small cause court, chief presidency magistrate, additional chief presidency magistrate, sessions judge, additional sessions judge and assistant sessions judge;
(b) the expression judicial service means a service consisting exclusively of persons intended to fill the post of district judge and other civil judicial posts inferior to the post of district judge.

(a) The expression District Judge includes a City Civil Court Judge, Additional District Judge, Joint District Judge, Assistant District Judge, Chief Justice of a Small Court, Chief Presidency Magistrate, Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate, Sessions Judge, Additional Sessions Judge and Assistant Sessions Judge;

Article 236 Debate Summary
The draft Article 209D (Article 236) was discussed on 16 September 1949. It was not initially included in the Draft Constitution, 1948. Instead, the Speaker of the Draft Constitution proposed the inclusion of the following as draft Article 209D:
“in this chapter –
(a) the expression “District Judge” includes a City Civil Court Judge, Additional District Judge, Joint District Judge, Assistant District Judge, Chief Justice of a Small Court, Chief Presidency Magistrate, Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate, Sessions Judge, Additional are Sessions Judge and Assistant Sessions Judge;
(b) the expression “judicial service” means a service consisting exclusively of persons intended to fill the rank of District Judge and other civil judicial posts not below the rank of District Judge.”
The expressions “district judge” and “judicial service” have been defined in the draft article. There was no substantive debate on the draft article. The draft Article 209D was adopted on September 16, 1949.
