Article 25 Of Indian Constitution In English
Article 25 – Freedom of conscience and free profession, practice and propagation of religion.
(1) Subject to public order, morality and health and to the other provisions of this Part, all persons are equally entitled to freedom of conscience and the right freely to profess, practise and propagate religion.
(2) Nothing in this article shall affect the operation of any existing law or prevent the State from making any law.
(a) regulating or restricting any economic, financial, political or other secular activity which may be associated with religious practice;

Article 25 Debate Summary
Draft Article 19 (Article 25 Constitution of India) was debated on 3 and 6 December 1948. It gave Indians the individual right of religious freedom, subject to certain restrictions. There the debate revolved around two major questions: Can the right to propagate religion lead to forced conversion?
Should the social welfare and reform section be extended to Buddhists, Jains and Christians? Some members were concerned that the right to preach would allow forced conversions. He proposed amendments to remove the right to propagate religion altogether or to limit the right to practice religion in the private sphere.
This was opposed by other members, who felt that there was nothing in the draft article that facilitated forced conversions; He said that the right to propagate religion will create awareness among people about different religions and promote communal understanding and peace.
The amendments were rejected by the Assembly. One member wanted that the scope of sub-clause (b) of clause (2) of the draft article should extend beyond Hindus to Buddhists, Jains and Christians. He argued that it would promote religious harmony among people following different belief systems. Although the amendment was initially rejected by the assembly, the drafting committee later extended the clause to Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains. The draft article was adopted on 6 December 1948 with a minor amendment.
