Article 343 – Official language of the Union.

(a) the English language, or
(b) the Devanagari form of numerals, for such purposes as may be specified in the law.

Draft Article 301A The draft Constitution of India was absent in 1948. A member of the drafting committee introduced this provision on 12 September 1949. The draft article, popularly known as the ‘Munshi-Iyengar Formula’, declared, among other things, in Hindi.
